Located in the library of the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc), the shelving system consists of 104 bent aluminum plates. Given only the basic requirement of displaying books, the project is an exploration into the variability of a simple three-dimensional unit. Using a "shingled" approach to mount the shelves, the distance between each unit allows for subtle curvatures to develop in the surface. This curvature, which includes both concave and convex surfaces, accentuates the individual units as the light from nearby windows is reflected off of the aluminum. The shelves are situated at prominent corner locations that also consideration of a simple method of transitioning from one surface to another. The design of the corner element further exploits the bent plate technology by folding the perpendicular systems into one another.
